HELLO, I’M DÉBORA, FOUNDER OF MUSIC & BEEATS

I am a classically trained saxophonist, musicologist, soon-to-be anthropologist, self-taught blogger, and content creator, and in this blog, I explore the world and the music around me. My experience writing articles and music reviews, my work on the Blog Amerigrafías of the anthropology department of the University of Bonn, and the different volunteer work I do as a social media manager allowed me to discover a special interest in sharing digital content. Naturally, due to my profession, the focus of this blog is music. However, the interdisciplinarity with which I have developed my career has led me to connect music with other disciplines that have always interested me, such as ethnomusicology, art, anthropology, the study of religion, and history. In addition, having developed my entire professional career in different European countries has helped me to observe and learn about new cultures, which I find fascinating.

I had wanted to develop a project like this for a long time and it wasn’t until I had a conversation with my parents in Dubai that I realized the importance of having something that was mine, as my father said, «You need to build a personal brand that describes you as a person and as a professional», all while «doing something I’m passionate about», as my mother said. Well, Music & Beeats encompasses it all. You may be wondering why the name. Well, the music part is obvious, however, Beeats refers to many things in one. First, the Bee part is directly related to my name. Deborah is a Hebrew name meaning bee or «as hardworking as a bee». In the Old Testament of the Bible, Deborah is a prophetess, poetess, and judge who led a revolt to help free the Israelites from the Canaanites. I always thought my name was the main reason for my strong personality, but now I understand that it only played a small role in the whole, as my parents did the hardest part by investing a lot of effort, love, and resources in raising me and my siblings. Secondly, in music, the noun beat refers to a basic unit of time (also known as a pulse), but I also thought of the sound similarity to the word «bit», which means small pieces of something. That is exactly the purpose of this blog, to offer the reader bits of my knowledge, opinions, and life stories. Better said, the musical content of my blog is mixed with different topics and seen through my eyes, the eyes of a bee.

I hope this blog will be an exciting window into the vast world of music. I will do my best to provide you with interesting content and fun examples. Join me as we embark on this journey of discovery, learning, and lots of memories.
